entry information
In May 2008, Valpak will take a delegation of five young people (from one winning school) aged 14-16 to Prague to represent the UK at the third Youth Eco-Parliament.
Here the students will present a document to UNESCO representatives on the environment, which they will have written with students from across Europe.
In order to choose which young people will represent the UK on this trip, we are running a competition.
Between now and August, we are looking for enthusiastic classes to write a project proposal (approximately 1,000 words). The theme for this year's competition is "Managing our waste and natural resources".
The proposal must cover one of the following themes:
energy
waste
water
One winning school and a runner-up will be selected to receive an award to be presented by the Rt. Hon John Gummer MP, in London. The winning school can then nominate five pupils to attend the Youth Eco-Parliament in Prague in May 2008.
You can submit this proposal to us in any format, for example on paper, electronically or even video! This must be in your own words and can be supported by artwork and photographs.
It may be a project that your class is already undertaking or something that your school feels strongly about and wishes to focus on as an extra-curricular activity. All we suggest is that each class spends a minimum of one hour a week on the project, should the entry be successful. Your school will also need to have internet access to participate in the Eco-Parliament.
The project will be local in focus and should be carried out over the next few months in preparation for composing the UNESCO document on the environment.
The deadline for entries is 1 August 2007.
