why is valpak doing this?

The Youth Eco-Parliament is being run by PRO Europe, an umbrella organisation made up of 24 Green Dot compliance schemes across Europe. Most countries in Europe choose to comply with the Packaging Waste Regulations by use of the Green Dot system, where companies pay a licence fee to put the symbol on their packaging. This licence fee funds recycling in those countries.

Although we do not use the Green Dot system in this country to comply with the regulations, (we use the PRN system) Valpak manages the Green Dot in the UK on behalf of PRO Europe. This ensures companies use the Green Dot trademark on their packaging appropriately. For this reason, PRO Europe asked Valpak to co-ordinate the UK delegation of the Youth Eco-Parliament.
