2007 projects - waste

Walton High, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire

  • Firstly, students learnt about different environmental issues. They then looked at what solutions there were to these issues and every student made "green pledges".
  • In response to these pledges the students wanted to encourage their school and other schools in the area to reduce, reuse and recycle more.
  • An eco-group was formed and the group designed a competition called "Bling My Bin" where students are asked to design a recycling bin which would encourage teenagers to recycle.
  • They proposed to also run the competition in local primary schools as well as their own school.
  • As an enetrprise school, they are also looking to work with businesses to produce the winning bin design, and aim to involve local press and other schools to publicise the competition.
  • Finally, the students planned to involve local media to promote awarness to the local community as well.
