recycle your old electrical
items this Christmas

In the UK the amount of electrical waste we create in one year would fill the new Wembley 6 times! That's a lot of waste, especially when all electrical items can be recycled at many recycling centres across the UK.

Here are some tips to help you reduce, reuse and recycle-more electrical products this Christmas and New Year:

  • if you are looking to purchase a new digital television, but your current one still works - you might wish to buy a digital box instead. This will save money and your old television from going to landfill, for information on switching to digital please visit www.digitaluk.co.uk
  • you can find your nearest waste electrical recycling site by using the bank locator or text 'elec' and your postcode to 60060
  • buy products with rechargeable batteries so that the batteries can be reused, then dispose of them correctly
  • make sure replacement electrical goods are required not just desired!
  • consider whether the item could be repaired, for example www.ukipodrepairs.com buy and repair broken ipods
  • choose an ethical gift in place of an electrical item, or how about buying some solar powered or wind up gadgets that are now available?
  • if possible have a real Christmas tree with roots, instead of a fibre optic one - this will less energy and you can enjoy the smell of the real tree, adding to the festive spirit. After Christmas you can then plant it in your garden
