Real Nappy Week 2010

If you are a new parent or a 'parent to be' then one way to reduce your waste and save a bit of cash is to start using real nappies.

Benefits of Real Nappies
According to Women's Environmental Network, 8 million disposables are thrown away to landfill every day in the UK.

It is also estimated that disposable nappies take 500 years to decompose. Therefore, reusing nappies can save a lot of waste!

Go Real, who organise 'Real Nappy Week' believe you can save £500 by converting to real nappies, which is a nice bonus!

Getting started
'Real Nappy Week' is a great time to start your real nappy quest, and it runs from 26 April - 2 May. There are events being held across the UK, where you can find out more. Some retailers are also offering great discounts on real nappies. For further details about Real Nappies and the week long campaign visit: www.goreal.org.uk

Alternatives
Using real nappies isn't for everyone. They can take time to wash and dry (especially in the winter if you haven't got a tumble dryer!) .

There are a range of eco-disposable nappies now on offer, which have no bleaching agents to pollute the environment, and use fewer chemicals reducing the amount of harmful waste products. Some of these eco-disposable nappies are now available in a few supermarkets and retailers. You'll find a wider range online.
