1.
Turn down your thermostat
Turn down your thermostat

Did you know that by reducing the temperature of a room by just 1% you could reduce your heating bill by approximately £55.00 a year?
2.
Close your curtains
Close your curtains when it is dusk or dark

Closed curtains prevent heat from escaping out of windows. It is also a good idea to check for draughts around your doors and windows.
3.
Do not leave appliances on standby

Also, do not charge mobile phones and laptop computers unnecessarily.
4.
Turn lights off
Remember to turn the lights off every time you leave an empty room
5.
Only boil as much water as you need
Only boil as much water as you need to use

Elements must be covered if you are using an electric kettle.
6.
Fix dripping taps
Dripping taps waste energy

A dripping hot water tap, if left for one week, wastes enough water to fill half an average sized bath tub. Make sure that taps are fully turned off and any leakages are fixed.
7.
Always load your washing machine
Fill up your dishwasher/ washing machine

Interestingly, full loads use less energy than two half loads. However, overloading can break your washing machine, so make sure that you can fit your hand over the top of your full load of washing before switching on your machine.
8.
Use low energy light bulbs
Replace tungsten light bulbs with low energy light bulbs

Low energy light bulbs can last up to 10 times longer than ordinary tungsten light bulbs, and using one can save you up to £40 over the bulb's life time.

Did you know that you can recycle your low energy light bulbs? Access recycle-more's low energy light bulb recycling bank locator to find your nearest recycling point.
9.
Is your water too hot?
Your water could be too hot

Make sure that your cylinder thermostat is set to 60 Degrees Celsius/ 140 Degrees Fahrenheit.
