who produces the most rubbish?

* Includes construction & demolition wastes, agricultural wastes, sewage sludge and dredged soils (Source: DETR Waste Strategy 2000)

You may be surprised to learn that the rubbish from businesses and industries makes up 93% of all the rubbish collected in the UK.

The rubbish comes from places like shops and offices, and industries like manufacturing, building and transport. The pie chart to the left shows where the 400 million tonnes of rubbish in England and Wales comes from.
