We cannot carry liquids without some kind of container. Plastic bottles are ideal because they are strong, safe, do not break and are excellent at keeping the fizz in fizzy drinks.
Only a small amount of plastic is used to make each bottle. Bottles are extremely lightweight, which helps save fuel in transportation.
Plastic packaging uses only a very small amount - about 2% of all crude oil produced. Plastic bottles use less than one sixth of this.
Plastics don't break down and rot when they are thrown away, so all the bottles that are dumped in landfill sites every year will simply sit there. There are so many opportunities to use plastic bottles again in new applications, it seems a shame that so many are being wasted every year, filling up large holes in the ground when they could have been made into new products.
