If ever there was a reason for avoiding landfill and recycling it would have to be looking at the regulated substances allowed by the environment agency in your local landfill. I did a search at www.environment-agency.gov.uk and found that over 90 substances - most harmful to human health - were permitted. When you consider that over 80% of the UK population live within 2km of a landfill what effect is this having on us?

Just been reading the expert comment (from Hugh Carr-Harris) and couldn't help thinking that the government could be doing more maybe - how about reduced VAT on 100% recycled products (like they do on energy saving products for households - e.g. loft insulation)? How about a set quota for products (e.g. newspapers) to contain certain % of recycled material?

If anyone has a batch of faulty computers in the London area, I'm interested in obtaining them. Not looking for working machines, just as long as all the components are in the case and maybe monitors.
Contact: khom@lineone.net.
Thanks.

I would like to set up recycling in my school, which is private. We would have a huge amount to deal with. Who can I talk to about the best way forward.

Does anyone know of a charity that could use a few hundred TVs. Some are in need of repair, some just require a button fixing etc. I want to dispose of in an eco and 'cheap' way. We're based in the North West near Preston Lancs.
