Aussie Model

In most areas in Australia the household wheelie bin is divided into two halves.

In one half goes ALL recycleable material, in the other half goes regular household waste. The collection truck also has this divide and when emptied the recyclables are sorted at the recycling station.

This makes it very easy to recycle, also forces you to recycle as the regular waste space in the bin is physically smaller and maintains a weekly collection (rather than councils dropping to fortnighly pickups - with the associated issues and inconvenience to housegolders of a fortnighly cycle)

I'm wondering how such a simple model has been missed in the UK?

Much better prices can be obtained for recyclables collected and sorted on kerbside. We also do not have the same amount of amenity space as most of our houses are older.
