Environmental Legislation

There are a number of environmental regulations in place in the UK which affect businesses. The purpose of these regulations are to:

  • Ensure that waste is recovered or disposed of without endangering human health or causing harm to the environment
  • Encourage the prevention or reduction of waste and the recovery of waste via reuse or recycling

Some of the regulations that may affect you as a business include:

  • Packaging Waste Regulations
  • Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations
  • Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations
  • Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Regulations
  • Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical Substances (REACH) Regulations
  • Environmental Permitting Regulations

Failure to comply with these regulations can result in prosecution and fines so we would strongly advise businesses to carry out checks to see if they are affected.
